LG. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself? (Age, location, how did you get started)
DJ. Originally I'm from Kansas City. I knew lots of promoters and DJs from modeling and being in the club scene. It's where I first started DJing but it wasn't more than three months before I was playing cities all over the US. Now I split my time living in Vegas and LA. Age ain't nothing but a number, but if you must know… I'm old enough to know better but young enough to do it anyway.
LG. Five years from now, where do you see yourself?
DJ. I'm expecting to have three albums completed by then. I've been putting a lot of work into song writing over the last year. Producers send me about 40-50 beats a week, so I have a lot of extra material. Once the first album is done then we're moving straight into videos. The more focused I am right now the more the
future will be a success.
LG. Do you rather DJ, or Modeling?
DJ. With DJing I get to express myself a lot more. That's part of why I'm focused on song writing too. I like being in total control - being in the drivers seat. I absolutely love clothes and will always love modeling. Sometimes I feel like it's more of a showcase of the designers clothes and therefore someone else's artistry - however, I then become an essential part of that art.
LG. Is it difficult being a female DJ?
DJ. I think the whole male/female DJ convo is way old. It's almost 2012! I guess the perception is that it's still a male dominated industry. This might still be the case… however, focusing energy on thinking about it is ultimately a waste of time. Both men and women
can be performers of any kind and both can be good performers.
LG. Does Modeling help or hurt you with being a DJ?
DJ. Absolutely it helps and is how I got started in performing. As a model or a DJ you are the center of attention in a room - so it helps with stage fright - but I was never scurr'd!!! Also, modeling provides another way for people to connect with me regardless of what kind of music they like.
LG. What is a big pet peeve of yours from the industry?
DJ. Some people seem to believe that making money somehow means you sold out. This is ridiculous. It's like just because your an artist you can't make a living.
LG. Can you tell some of the challenges that you have come across?
DJ. Time management is one of the biggest challenges when you have
so many different projects going. At any one time I will be traveling, performing, dealing with agents and promoters, *doing interviews*, taking care of the financial side of things. The biggest challenge is keeping it all under control.
LG. Tell us your greatest weakness and strength?
DJ. My greatest strength is my endurance. I have the energy to go go go 24/7/365 people often think I don't sleep since I'm always up to something and constantly texting and tweeting. My greatest weakness is for shoes and clothes I have entire rooms filled up… not Oprah hoarder style but… It's still crazy.
LG. What are some of your greatest achievements thus far?
DJ. I think my greatest achievement so far is to have such a good following for the relatively short amount of time I've been
performing. Playing all over the US and Asia are great accomplishments for any DJ. I'm happy that so many people are supportive and into my sound and energy.
LG. What is your ultimate goal for your career?
DJ. Making and performing my own music. Just as I was saying with modeling, DJing only gives you the outlet to perform someone else's actual art.
LG. Do you prefer FaceBook or Twitter?
DJ. I'm way more active on Twitter but I like having Facebook and even still use Myspace so my friends can have another place to join the fun.
LG. What song on the radio is your favorite right now?
DJ. I'm a big supporter of my homie FloRida and have been playing "Good Feelin" for months. Rihanna's - "We found Love" is also huge for
me right now.
LG. What was the craziest experience that you’ve had in the industry (story)?
DJ. I have enough stories to fill a book. Hey you just gave me an idea for another project! Seriously though every day of my life is like Friday and Saturday for most people. It can all become a blur after a while but nothing is crazier than most nights in Vegas.
LG. Question, all the guys want to know… Are you single?
DJ. I got a question for all those guys - YOU THINK YOU CAN HANDLE THIS?
LG. How can a guy get your attention?
DJ. A guy has got to make me laugh when I am tired. Talk with me for hours about nothing. Think I am beautiful after I have had the flu for a week. He has to make me laugh. Looks aren't the most important. But he better not be broke and he better have a car.
LG. Where can our audience see more of you?
DJ. djsophialin dot com is updated on the regular.
LG. What advice do you have for young women, trying to get in the industry?
DJ. There is a lot of unglamorous behind the scenes work in show business. It's not all fun and games. Ultimately have respect for yourself and treat others as you want to be treated.
