We lie because women can not handle the truth. When we tell the truth, the reaction to the truth is emotional and over done. It is easier to lie than tell the truth. If a man says, I'm leaving work early today. The wife will go on about why, and no, do this and not that. How about if we just leave work early but don't tell you, and if you ask, "I didn't leave yet". It is easier to lie than tell the truth.

There are men who lie for no reason, for anything, and there are men who lie just to avoid an argument. As the marriage gets older the lying becomes easier and more constant. We are not lying to hurt you, we are lying to avoid arguments and headaches. But understand, everything we say is not a lie. There was an episode of Kings and Queens, Doug and Carrie agree to be honest to each other about everything and they will not get upset. They couldn't not handle it, at the end of the episode, Doug had a burger and Carrie ask him "did you have a burger" Doug just finish eating the burger and said "No, no I had a salad". No big deal, Carrie could not handle the truth, therefore a lie was needed.
